I have been hoarding patriotic fabrics for a couple of summers. I keeping putting off making anything, waiting for the "perfect" dress to hit me...at my 10 year old's urging, this little sweetheart came into being. It features three patriotic fabrics- the top is "flag stars" (named by my magpie) and has a touch of sparkle. The top only is lined with the same sweet red and blue polka dots as I used for the straps. The middle flounce is a crisp quilting cotton of bright red with small white polka dots, and the bottom flounce is smattered with red, blue, silver, and an almost purple starts. All seams are serged in blue to prevent fraying. All areas are top stitched in a bright blue.

The edging and bodice are done from the matching blue stars design. The dress is done from my shoulder tied sundress pattern. The skirt is edged in a self-lined border of the star fabric. Because it is a double layer, it gives the skirt nice body. The dress can be worn alone in warmer climates or with a blouse or turtleneck in cooler weather.
